2018-2019
Greetings From the
President
Welcome to the 2018-2019 School Year. The Central Islip Board
of Education, Administration, Faculty and Staff work to provide a safe and
enriching educational environment so your children - our students, will
experience positive and fulfilling learning experiences that will allow them to
reach their maximum potential. Cutting edge curricula, music and athletic
programs and opportunities in the arts and extracurricular activities, combined
with substantive new initiatives, promise to make the coming school year an
exciting one for all of us!
To this end, the Central Islip Union Free School District has
undergone a ‘Restructuring’ which will address overcrowding, enrollment
projections and enhance the educational process as we move forward. Our School District
is now represented by six elementary schools: Alfano, Cordello, Morrow,
Mulligan, Mulvey and O’Neill which will comprise grades kindergarten through
six; Reed Middle School for grades seven and eight; and Central Islip High
School for grades nine through twelve. All students enrolled in
pre-kindergarten classes will attend Alfano Elementary School.
Also very exciting is an announcement made recently by
Governor Andrew Cuomo, in which the Hamlet of Central Islip is the recipient of
a $10 million Downtown Improvement Initiative which will further improve the
value and quality of our community.
Please save the date: September 27, when you will be asked to
consider a special referendum which, if approved, will result in the
construction of a beautiful, wrought-iron colored fence with brick piers around
the perimeter of our high school. From a security standpoint, this fence will
enhance our ability to control ingress and egress points onto the high school
campus. Voting will be held in the
Alfano Elementary School gymnasium from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. You will receive
more information as the date approaches.
Please refer to our School District Calendar and log on to
the District Website at www.centralislip.k12.ny.us for a listing of Board of Education
Meetings, as well as school related activities, concerts and athletic games.
It is my pleasure to serve as your School Board President. On
behalf of the Central Islip Board of Education, Administration, Faculty and
Staff, I thank you for giving us the opportunity to educate your children.
Respectfully,
Norman A. Wagner/President
Board of Education
