Curriculum

 Welcome to our Curriculum website!

Welcome to the K-12 Curriculum Department at the Central Islip Pubic School District!

Our task at the Central Islip School District is to provide outstanding opportunities for all of our students and to prepare them for success in life as contributing citizens of a global community. It is my role, as the District Administrator for Curriculum, to assist in the supervision of our K-12 instructional programs.

The Central Islip School District curriculum is aligned to the New York State Common Core Learning Standards, which are the educational guiding principles of our district and community. These Common Core Learning Standards have one major goal in mind, to prepare our students for college and beyond. In order to make sure every child’s needs are met while still addressing these important learning standards, instruction must be differentiated. Such differentiation, by way of our teaching staff, results in learning and assessment matched to the individualized needs of our students.

We continually monitor and evaluate the progress and success of our schools and students by utilizing formal and informal assessment data at both the district and state levels. Examples of such indicators include, but are not limited to the following: results on state mandated assessments (Grades 3-8 ELA and Math exams, Regents exams), district level exams (Discovery Education Assessment, Early Literacy testing , Reading Benchmarks, Go Math Assessments, Department Midterms/Finals), classroom observations and anecdotal records, Regents diplomas, Advanced Placement enrollment, graduation rate, college acceptances, etc.

As a district, we are continually setting high expectations for our students and staff. We look forward to any and all opportunities to work collaboratively with our community to inform decisions that shape our goals each year. Together we can empower our children to succeed to their fullest potential!
