Director of Physical Education, Health, Athletics and Health Services Lawrence S. Philips acknowledged the board of education, administration and community for their support of the Athletic Program and  welcomed guests who attended to support the athletes. Joining families and friends were School Board Vice President Michele Harriott and School Board Members Fred Philips, William G. Softy and Glenn C. Mitchell. Varsity Coaches presented Most Valuable Player Awards, Coaches Awards in addition to the Musketeer Sportsmanship Awards, Billy Klinke Courage Award, Outstanding Senior Athlete Awards, Senior Scholar Athlete Awards, CI Sports Hall of Fame Scholarships and the Jack & Lois Tice Memorial Scholarship.

The Athletic Department recognized CI student-athletes and their coaches on another successful season during the annual Varsity Sports Awards Banquet. This year’s highlights included playoff appearances, sportsmanship winners, scholar-athlete teams, state qualifiers, school records and myriad individual honors. Many of our senior student-athletes will be attending prestigious universities or joining the military. In Central Islip we do not prepare our student-athletes for the next level of competition, we prepare them for the next level of life.
A special thanks goes to the CI Sports Hall of Fame. The CISHOF donated $6000 in college scholarships to graduating student-athletes and purchased jackets for the student-athletes who qualified for their respective state championships.
A special thanks also goes to CI alumnus Mike Tice, who played and coached in the NFL for almost 40 years. Mike made the trek from his home in Seattle to present the “Jack and Lois Tice Family Memorial Scholarship” and to speak to the student-athletes, emphasizing the importance of teamwork, character and fun.
