The Board of Education has made some essential personnel appointments our staff as we move our District forward in pursuit of academic excellence.

Please join me in welcoming Angela Austin, Ed.D.  Dr. Austin joins the Central Islip Team of administrators, faculty, and staff as Assistant Superintendent for Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services. She comes to Central Islip from the Bridgehampton Union Free School District, where she served as Director of Pupil Personnel Services & English as a New Language/Curriculum Coordinator. Dr. Austin is an innovative and student-focused educational leader, and brings a wealth of experience in meeting the needs of at-risk students, and creating a stimulating and challenging learning environment to the highest level of achievement. Dr. Austin’s strong leadership skills, experience in mentoring educators in the creation and implementation of differentiated class instruction, curriculum development and implementation, district/state assessment coordination, creative problem-solving techniques, and staff training and professional development, make her an asset to the Central Islip Team.

Dr. Austin received her Bachelor of Science in Special Education from Dowling College, Oakdale; Master of Science in Administrative Education from St. John’s University, Oakdale; and a Doctorate in Administrative Leadership – Focus in Special Education, Transition Planning & At-Risk Youth, St. John’s University, Oakdale.

Dr. Austin also served as Assistant Administrator/Director of Special Education & Supervisor of the Connetquot Alternative Preschool; Coordinator of PPS & Guidance, (9-12), Middle Country Central School District; Director of Live-Love-Teach Education Consulting, Centereach; Adjunct Professor for the Child Study Department, St. Joseph’s College, Patchogue; Adjunct Professor for the School of Education, St. John’s University, Queens; and Adjunct Profession for the School of Special Education, Dowling College, Oakdale.

I am also pleased to announce that Mrs. Mariana Gil, is our newly appointed Administrator for the Bilingual, ENL and World Languages Department. She previously served as Assistant Principal of the Morrow Elementary School. Mrs. Gil’s trajectory over 12 years as a World Language educator and nearly three years as a school leader and administrator include stellar achievements in the areas of Multicultural curriculum writing and implementation, culturally-based peer mentoring programs, active parental engagement programs, and collegial professional development.

Mrs. Gil earned her Bachelor of Arts in Romance Languages and Masters of Science in Secondary Education from Dowling College, Oakdale; Advanced Certificate, SBL/SDL, St. John’s University, Queens; and is pursuing her Ed.D. in School Leadership and Administration, St. John’s University, Queens.

Before coming to the Central Islip Union Free School District, Mrs. Gil was an Assistant Principal of the Bellport Middle School, South Country Central School District, and a Spanish Teacher and member of the District Curriculum Development Committee in Longwood High School, Longwood Central School District.

As we embark upon the 2020-2021 School Year, we welcome Dr. Austin and Mrs. Gil!
