Students at the Ralph G. Reed Middle School, under the tutelage of Ms. Ivette Rios, are developing their botanical skills as they learn how to grow vegetables from seedlings. This sophisticated schoolwide science effort has resulted in the Reed Family Garden, which is located in the school's courtyard. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held to commemorate the introduction of the project. Reed Middle School Principal Dr. Tracy Hudson welcomed District administrators as Superintendent of Schools Ms. Sharon A. Dungee officiated over the ribbon cutting ceremony. Among guests virtually attending the ceremony was School Board Vice President Mrs. Michele Harriott. Students were escorted to the courtyard by their teachers to observe the plantings. Ms. Dungee noted the importance and positive impact hands-on science projects such as the Reed Family Garden have on students. Ms. Rios said this project is a jumpstart to PTA's Seed to Supper initiative where the goal is to teach students how to grow their own food. Images in this slide show depict the excitement of the ribbon cutting celebration.
