The Board of Education Recognizes CIHS Senior Yu 'Kevin' Zhu

The Board of Education recognized Central Islip High School Senior, Yu 'Kevin' Zhu on February 5. Mr. Zhu was honored for being named a semi finalist in the Regeneron Science Talent Search 2020 Competition. This science talent search is an international competition that awards students for their exceptional innovative thinking and research skills, and their commitment to academics. He was one of 300 semi finalists selected out of 1,993 high school students from around the world who submitted their projects into the competition. Mr. Zhu's project analyzed the effects of simulated microgravity on the biofilm production and susceptibility of Acinetobacter Tween Arginine Translocase mutants for which he and Central Islip High School each received $2,000 grants. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Howard M. Koenig presented Mr. Zhu with proclamations on behalf of United States Congressman Peter T. King, New York State Senator Phil Boyle, Suffolk County Legislator Tom Cilmi and Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter. The Superintendent introduced Central Islip Good Neighbor Coalition President Debra Cavanagh and Trustee Susan Pellegrino to present a proclamation on behalf of the members of their organization.
