The Morrow Elementary School Family came together on November 20 to
showcase its First International Day Celebration. The event was designed
to celebrate the many cultures of the school community through song,
dance, music and foods of all nations. Morrow
Elementary Principal Dr. Neema Coker opened the program with welcoming
remarks which were translated by Morrow Elementary Assistant Principal
Mariana Gil. Members of the band under the direction of Music Teacher
Julie Valverde performed the Star Spangled Banner
and a variety of selections representing different countries, the
Morrow Music Club sang 'The Hello Song,' and the Andrew T. Morrow Chorus
under the direction of Music Teacher Andrea Majeski entertained a
standing room only school and community audience with
their touching rendition of 'We Are the World.' Students attending the
Diversity School of Dance under the direction of Mrs. Colon performed
cultural dance numbers before guests headed to the cafeteria to enjoy
the International Food Tasting which was served
by members of the school's faculty, staff and PTA. Morrow school staff
and local businesses contributed to the buffet tables. Also joining the
community to help celebrate the cultural event were School Board Vice
President Michele Harriott and School Board
Member Fred Philips.
